For Recently Released + Families
Coming home comes with enough to figure out.
Food should not be one more mystery. Everything here is free.
The first weeks after release are when food is hardest to figure out:
- Money is tight, and food competes with rent, transportation and a phone.
- Many people come home to transitional housing, a shared kitchen or no kitchen at all.
- After years of set meals, planning, shopping and cooking on a budget are skills to rebuild.
Families often want to help but don’t know what to send or what a facility allows.
Fresh Start Guide
A free 36-page guide with your first 72 hours, a first grocery list, a $25 basket challenge, microwave and no-cook meals, and where to find food help.
For someone still inside
Inside Track is a free five-week course on eating well with what is available inside, ending with a food plan for going home. It comes by mail, one short workbook a week, with no kitchen needed.
To join by mail, write to Outside Eats, PO Box 290366, Port Orange, FL 32129-0366 with your name, ID number and facility address.
Fresh Start Family Kit
For families who want to help. The kit explains why food guides help, walks through four steps to send them so they get through, and includes a mailroom checklist.
Tip: every facility has its own mail rules. Check the facility’s mail policy before sending anything.
Sponsor a Learner
Every guide and course is free to the person who receives it. Sponsors cover the printing and postage.
- $5 sends one printed Fresh Start Guide
- $15 sponsors one Inside Track learner for all five weeks
- Any amount helps
